Social Media Strategy For Your Blog

What is your current strategy for sharing your blog posts? Ummmm I don’t have one. Girl, you are not alone. This is probably one of the most asked questions that I get. How do you create a strategy for sharing your blog posts? I love helping bloggers with this. Showing them that showcasing their blogs in an intentional way is super important to have continued growth. You can’t write a great blog post and then no one sees it.

THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF BLOGGING

If you have a blog post that you don’t share, how is anyone even going to know that it exists? This doesn’t mean that readers are going to flock to your website (even though I hope that they do) immediately. It means that you need to create a strategy that you can be consistent with. Let me share a little story. I have been blogging since 2014. In 2019, I lost ALL of my content as my website was deleted and I didn’t have anything backed up. (That is a whole other blog post topic!) I had to restart from scratch and rebuild everything that I had worked on for 5 years. I want you to remember that blogging is a long-term strategy. It isn’t something that you are going to instantly see success with. If you did, that is wonderful but I truly believe that you need to be intentional and consistent with your blogging efforts. Over the past 6 months, I have started to see an increase in my traffic. Everything I have been doing for the past 2.5 - 3 years is starting to pay off. Now, this doesn’t mean that it is going to take you this long. It will also depend on the niche you are in and so many other factors but my consistency, my strategy, and my efforts are helping me to exceed my goals. Give yourself time and keep showing up.

CREATING A SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGY FOR YOUR BLOG

Now let’s talk about why you are really here. You want to know how to create a social media strategy for your blog. Knowing where to begin can feel overwhelming and confusing but it doesn’t have to be. Let’s talk about mapping out your social media strategy and breaking it down so that you can easily start doing this today.

Create a list of social media platforms that you are currently using

I want you to remember that you don’t need to show up everywhere for your social media strategy to work. Where are your ideal clients showing up? What platforms do you love to be on? What platforms bring you 0 joy? I am not everywhere and I am okay with that. These are the platforms that I recommend using…

    • Pinterest

    • Instagram

    • Facebook Business Page

Other platforms that you can use…

    • Twitter

    • LinkedIn

    • TikTok

    • YouTube

When you know where you want to be, you can begin to create a strategy that will include all of your social media platforms. Here are the different lifespans of your creative content. Know how much time you have to work on content for your social media platforms You can’t just say that you want to show up on all of these platforms. You need to make sure that you have time to do so. Being consistent with your social media strategy includes knowing how much time you can dedicate to doing so. If currently you have an hour a week to spare to work on content for your social media platforms then try one or two platforms out to begin with and see how much time they take you. Here are more tips to time block as a blogger. It will take a few weeks to figure out how long the process takes you and as you continue, you will get faster and faster and create the content that you are going to share. For me, when it comes to creating content for my clients, it takes me about an hour to map out the content itself. It will then take me anywhere from 1-4 hours to create the graphics and write the content that goes along with the content. It will then take me an additional hour to schedule all the content and every day I spend about 30-60 minutes on engagement for those platforms. That includes multiple platforms per day. I want you to also remember that having a social media strategy isn’t just about creating and sharing your content. It has to include engagement. This is the biggest piece of the social media game. You need to engage on your social media platforms or no matter how much you share, it won’t matter. Remember your platforms are meant to be social. Create a calendar and choose how often you want to post on each social media platform I love giant calendars. I can use Post-It Notes with them or I can use different coloured pens to map out my ideas. I am a visual person and when I am creating my content, I like to physically write them out and so a big calendar comes in handy. I got the one that I use from Walmart as it is undated so I can use it for any month that I need. When I talk about being consistent and creating a strategy, it doesn’t mean that you have to show up every single day on every single platform. It means finding a consistency that works for you. For example, when it comes to my small business content clients, I post every other day on each of their platforms so for example when I plan out their months, I will do it like this… 1: IG and LinkedIn 2: FB and Pinterest 3: IG and LinkedIn 4: FB and Pinterest And so on. They aren’t getting content every day on every social media platform. This way, they are getting about 15 posts on each platform every single month. You do not need to do it this way and you can certainly show up every single day but I suggest starting small. Start showing up 3 times a week on your different platforms. This will get you in the habit of showing up on your social media platforms. You can always increase it at a later date. It isn’t just about sharing your blog posts I want you to remember that creating content isn’t just about sharing the blog post. It is about breaking up that blog post into many different content pieces. Your one blog post can get you 10-15 or even more pieces of content for your social media. I have a freelance blogging membership. This includes one blog post per month and ten different pieces of social media content that they can use to share that one single blog post. How do you turn your blog post into multiple pieces of content? Here are some examples…

    • Turn teachable moments into a carousel post or into different individual posts

    • Take quotes out of your blog post and create graphics with them

    • Share the title of your blog post

    • Share a comment that was left on that blog post

    • If you link other blog posts in it (which you should), share them again on your social media

    • Ask a question related to that blog post before you post the blog post

Post content that gets your followers talking When you are creating your content, make sure that you add content that allows you to get to know your followers. People love to talk about themselves and so get them talking. Ask them questions that are relevant to the time of year it is. Ask them questions about your niche. Ask them questions about their goals. Just start asking them questions. Here are some tips for building your blogging audience. Map out your content in a way that works for you What do I mean by this? Well, when it comes to planning out my content, I plan my blogging content a month at a time and I plan my social media content a week at a time. Doing it this way allows me to be flexible. For my clients, I plan out all of their content a month at a time. This way they can approve the content all at once and then we just do the posting and the engagement piece of it. Whichever way works best for you, do it that way! The big secret to creating a strategy for your social media… There is no wrong way to create your own strategy. It just needs to be a strategy that you can be consistent with. Below is a sample of a weeks worth of content for my business. You can purchase this weekly content planner now.
