Have you been staring at your computer screen wondering where to begin when it comes to blogging? I mean even just picking a blogging platform can feel like an enormous task. I want you to remember that EVERYONE will have a different opinion. As with everything else in life, we form strong opinions about certain topics in our life and blogging is no different. At the end of the day, you need to CHOOSE and DO what makes the most sense to you.
Write about what you love to talk about. This will be the best tip that I can give you. You will give up after a while if you aren’t writing about something that you are passionate about.
Just start writing. Don’t worry about the blog post layout. Don’t worry about word count. Just start writing. Everything else will come to you as you continue to learn.
Don’t worry about making money. Focus on writing at the beginning. Focus on creating content that makes your readers want to keep coming back. If making money is your goal than ensure that you are building trust with your readers.
Start small. If you overwhelm yourself from the start, you are going to walk away. Start with 1 blog post a week. You can always add more blog posts when you have a blogging flow.
Write like you are having a conversation. Don’t over complicate your writing. Write as you would talk to a friend. This will help your readers to easily understand what you are communicating and to feel as if they have known you for a while.
Set goals. This should be one of the first steps that you take. Set goals so that you have a clear vision of where you want your blog to go. This helps keep you on track and to set content that will help you get closer to those goals.
Be consistent. You must have a content plan and a blogging plan. Blogging is about strategy. If you are not consistent, you will scare your readers away. They want to know when you are sharing a blog post.
It is okay to take a break. In the beginning, I felt that if I had taken a break, all my hard work would be gone. Yes, you need to be consistent but you are still human. If taking a week break is what you need to revitalize yourself, then do it.
Create a list of keywords to start building up your SEO. This goes along with writing what you know. Do some research. Create a list of short-tail and long-tail keywords so that you can start building your expertise and knowledge in those.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. I didn’t and there were days that I struggled. You do not need to struggle. Ask for help.
Network. This is so big. Find other bloggers that you can network with. Blogging can get lonely but having other bloggers in your corner can help you through those tough times. Find Facebook groups for bloggers.
Advertise your blog on social media before you launch. Get your followers excited to read your blog. Share with them a launch date. Build up excitement and get them to know you a bit before you release your first blog post.
Have a few posts written for when you are stuck on ideas. You are going to get writer’s block. Have some backup blog posts ready to go when you just can’t write anything. This will help to maintain your consistency.
Have your blog posts stored somewhere else and not just on your site. I cried. I lost 4 years of blog posts and had to start all over again when my site was deleted. I didn’t have them saved anywhere so the hard work that I had been doing for 4 years just vanished. Learn from my mistake. I love using Google Docs.
Buy your own domain right away. You want to have your own domain. You want to start building your brand immediately and a domain is the great first place to begin. There are ways to get a cheap domain for the first year. Some platforms even give you a free domain when you sign up.
Use Grammarly. If you struggle with spelling and grammar, this is the perfect option for you. They have a free program that you can use. I have it downloaded to my phone and my computer.
Learn how to set up your own site. I truly believe that it is so important to know the basics of setting up your own site. If something goes wrong, you can at least try and fix it so you don’t need to wait for someone else to do it.
Have a way to organize your blog. This is super important. You want to know what content you have done and what content is coming up. If you are looking for a great way to organize all things blogging, check out my blogging planner.
Dedicate time to write your blog posts. Make sure that you treat blogging like a business. You want to work on your blog so that you continue to create quality content. Having a certain time during the week for you to write will help you keep that commitment.
Get comfortable with social media. You don’t need to become an expert overnight or even an expert at all but you need to get comfortable using it. You will be promoting your blog through social media.
Don’t compare yourself to other bloggers. There are moments I catch myself doing this, even now. Don’t compare yourself. It is a toxic habit and it will make you question everything that you do. I know that it is easier said than done but you got this.
Know who you are talking to. Even if you are a beginner blogger, you should know who your ideal reader is. This helps you form the content of your blog. It helps you with the language of your blog. Knowing who you want to read your blog will help to ensure that you are writing for that person.
Have strategies in place to deal with writer’s block. I said earlier that you will get it. It happens to the best of us. BUT what are the ways that you can combat that? Some things that work for me are watching a documentary, taking a walk in nature and trying to go to sleep.
Don’t be afraid to ask people to share your blog post. There is no shame in being a blogger. Ask friends and family to share your blog post. Ask your network to share your blog post. That is how you will grow your blog. Sharing your blog only takes moments but it can help you reach that 1 person who truly needs to read what you wrote.
You aren’t writing for the ones that are commenting on your posts. You are writing for the readers that you don’t even realize are there. The ones that are staying silent and absorbing all of your writing.
When you are stuck on content ideas, ask your friends, followers and family. Having an outside opinion on what you can talk about is great. They will all have a different view.
Build your email list immediately. Have an option for your readers to become a part of your email list. I didn’t do that until about a year ago. I had 4 years of readers already built up before I even began asking them to follow me. Start right away.
How was that? 27 of the BEST blogging tips for beginners. Remember that everyone is a beginner. We all have to start somewhere and there is no shame in that. Blogging is a learning process. A process where you will learn what works and what doesn’t.

Super love the tips, thank you so much…There is one in particular that I feel is very important, know who you’re talking to…Makes so much sense.
Yes it can really help you to create the content that you are wanting to create.
It’s funny that before I started blogging I didn’t know how much work went into it. What’s so hard about taking photos and writing? Ha! Blogging sure showed me that there’s more to it than meets the eye. This list is helpful for those just beginning but it is also a good reminder for someone who’s blogged for years now at how far they have come.
